The Jafri B. Rizvi Memorial Academic Scholarship
Applications for the UMAA Scholarship
Act now and submit your application today.
The scholarship program was founded in honor of Murhuma Mrs. Jafri B. Rizvi, who along with her husband Dr. Saiyid S. H. Rizvi, has been a consistent contributor to the expansion of Azadari in the Shia community in North America since 1966.
This year, the scholarship program has been expanded and will be selecting three winners:
One winner will receive $1,500.
One winner will receive $1,000.
One winner will receive $500.
All applications must be submitted by May 18, 2012.
Applying
We recommend that you begin your application by reading carefully the information and instructions below. Please pay particular attention to all document requirements and the deadline for the submission of your application. We encourage you to use the check sheet on the last page to make sure you have provided the correct information along with your application.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, an applicant MUST be:
- At least high school senior who is planning to attend a four (4) year college.
- Anticipating entering college or university on a full-time basis.
- The college or university must be accredited and nationally recognized.
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.4.
Awards Criteria:
Scholarships are intended to recognize outstanding student achievement and potential. During the judging process, the following criteria will be considered:
- Leadership Qualities, Accomplishments and Potential as demonstrated by participation in extracurricular involvement, volunteer activities and work experience, and attested to by letters of recommendation.
- Academic Achievement as reflected in courses of study, grade point average, class standing and standardized test scores.
- Ability to Articulate and Support a Point of View as demonstrated by essay content and creativity.
- All decisions of the judges are final.
- Awards are made on an individual basis and are non-transferable from one individual to another.
Application Process:
- Applicants should send all application materials in email to UMAA (info@umaamerica.net).
- Applicants must be submitted by May 18, 2011.
- The winners will be notified by phone on or about May 23, 2012.
- The winners should plan on being present at the award ceremony.
- Each applicant MUST submit a completed Scholarship Application form, including all supporting documents listed below:
- Copy CV with grade point average
- Two letters of recommendation regarding the student’s academic, extracurricular, and/or community activities.
